OptiLight IPL (Intense Pulse Light)

What is OptiLight?

OptiLight IPL (Intense Pulse Light) is the first and only IPL that is FDA approved for the treatment of dry eye disease. It is a light-based non-invasive treatment that uses precise, intense broad-spectrum light to address dry eyes due to meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD). MGD is the most common cause of dry eye disease, accounting for about 86% of cases.

OptiLight treats the root cause of dry eyes by reducing major sources of inflammation such as abnormal blood vessels, Demodex mites, and pro-inflammatory agents. OptiLight restores the function of meibomian glands and delays evaporation of the tear film providing relief of dry eye symptoms.

OptiLight also treats ocular and facial rosacea, chalazion or hordeolum (styes), and blepharitis and even has skin-enhancing benefits such as stimulating collagen, improving skin texture, and more.

• During treatment, your eyes will be covered with adhesive or corneal shields and a thin layer of coupling gel will be applied to the treatment area.

• During treatment, light is applied to the treatment area, most patients report minimal discomfort.

• OptiLight is then followed by meibomian gland expression.

• Each session takes only 10-15 minutes. There is no downtime, you can resume your daily activities immediately.

• Patients usually report an improvement after their 2nd or 3rd treatment. For optimal results, 4 sessions are advised.
